Description

In a group of seven fifth-year students, we continued the work of previous student projects to design a housing that could combine the ABB robot YuMi with an existing mobile platform. This new unity we named MIRA: Mobile Interactive Robot Assembly. The goal was to make sure that MIRA could work alongside people in a 3D-printing facility at Linköping University in a safe way.

Function inspired by car lights.

Removeable tablet

For various interactions.

Emergency stop buttons

Out of reach of the robot arms. One on each side for easy access.

During this project, my main focus was on how the interaction elements should be used to ensure a safe interaction and work environment.

This work included:

          - Interviewing teachers and students using the facility.

          - Making a risk assessment based on ISO-standards.

          - Determining how MIRA and people should communicate.

          - Designing these interactive elements and finding suitable placements for them on MIRA that wouldn't disturb other functions.

          - Conduct user tests and evaluate the design of MIRA.

The pandemic caused some issues, but we managed to work with the new conditions and fulfil our goal. See the interactions elements I participated in designing below.

The removeable tablet, inspired by nintento game console design, makes interaction with MIRA simple and adaptable for the company.
