Rollercoaster Configurator

Make your own rollercoaster with CATIA and Excel.

Linköping University

Group Project

Mars - June 2021

Using CATIA, Excel and VBA, my teammate and I constructed a rollercoaster configurator. All CAD-parts are pre-made, so the user only has to fill in the specified parameters in Excel to make their rollercoaster, the rest is automated. It is part of the course TMKT57 at Linköping University.

My responsibilities included the station, the train, the Excel layout, and combining most of the code at the end, while my partner had the main responsibility of the track and supports.

Screenshot of the Excel layout.

The Train

Each cart contains one row of seats. The nr of seats in the carts can vary greatly, as seen in the images. Though the max. nr of carts possible is limited to the length of the station.

Images rendered in CATIA.

The Station

The length and height of the station can be decided by the user. The stairs, fence, and supports will adapt to those parameters. The station is also dependent on the width of the train (i.e. the nr of seats in the carts), to ensure a smooth and safe entry and exit on and off the train.
